About The Blue Train

The Blue Train is renown for being luxurious and for its top class service. Guests that stay aboard the Blue Train will receive a special gift at the end of the journey. The Blue Train offers both scheduled and chartered routes as well as packages that can include activities and accommodation off the train.

There are currently two Blue Train sets. The first train can accommodate up to 74 guests and the second can accommodate up to 58 with a observation car and a conference car. Each train travels around 90 kilometres per hour and carries 31 000 litres of water.

Dining

The Blue Train has top class dining which is complemented by some of the best wines in South Africa. The dining car seats 42 people and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are two sittings for lunch and dinner, lunch is smart casual, dinner is formal and breakfast is casual.

Accommodation

There are a variety of coaches on the Blue Train. There are 9 coaches with four suites per coach and two luxury coaches with three suites. All the beds have been custom made for the Blue Train. The beds are pulled out and already made, turning the suite from a comfortable lounge into a bedroom. The suites feature en-suite bathrooms with either a bath or a shower. The luxury suites have hi-fi, audio CD and VHS video systems.

Lounges

The Blue Train features 2 lounges. There is a main lounge where high tea is served every afternoon and the club car where guests are allowed to smoke.
